Project Overview:
We delivered the conversion of a single two-bedroom apartment into two self-contained one-bedroom homes, each with an independent wetroom and combined kitchen/living space. The brief prioritised a home-like, comfortable, non-stimulating environment that supports resident dignity and day-to-day care. The result is a calm, domestic setting with practical layouts that balance independence with clinical robustness where it matters.
The Brief:
Active Care Group required the design and execution of two single-occupancy apartments that feel domestic rather than institutional, while meeting current healthcare and building standards. That meant careful specification of finishes and lighting to avoid overstimulation, durable details in wet areas, and straightforward circulation for ease of support and cleaning.
During delivery, regulatory changes required the addition of a sprinkler system, extending the original programme. We re-sequenced works, coordinated services integration, and maintained clear communication so the client could make timely decisions. This responsive approach managed risk without compromising the intended resident experience.
Outcome:
The completed apartments provide quiet, reassuring living spaces that have been well received by residents, staff, and management. The client noted our responsiveness to the sprinkler requirement and the way we protected the project’s design intent while adapting to change. Liberty Court now offers two high-quality, compliant homes that align with Active Care Group’s model of care and can be replicated across the portfolio.
